ASPEL was established as a Community Interest Company (CIC) under English Law in 2009. It is a Company limited by shares, and therefore subject to the Companies Act, as well as the Companies (Audit, Investigation and Community Enterprise) Act 2004 and the Community Interest Company Regulations 2005. It is owned and controlled by its shareholders.
As a CIC, ASPEL differs from other companies in that it seeks to conduct business for community benefit, and not purely for private advantage. As a CIC, ASPEL has been registered with the CIC Regulator and we must satisfy the Regulator on an annual basis that we continue to operate for the benefit of the community.
ASPEL’s assets are “locked” to ensure that they are dedicated to community benefit purposes.
